Most scratches don't come from dropping your glasses. They come from cleaning them the wrong way. Dust is hard and sharp, and rubbing it across a dry lens works like sandpaper.
The two-minute routine
- Rinse first under lukewarm water to wash dust away.
- Add one small drop of mild dish soap to your fingertips and rub both sides of each lens gently.
- Rinse again until no soap is left.
- Shake off the water and dry with a clean microfibre cloth.
What never to use
- Tissues, paper towels or your shirt. Their fibres scratch coatings.
- Hot water. It can damage lens coatings over time.
- Glass cleaner or sanitiser. Strong chemicals strip anti-glare layers.
Quick fix: Wash your microfibre cloth every week. A dirty cloth just moves grease around.
Store them right
Always put your glasses in their case, lenses facing up if they are out. Never leave them on the car dashboard. Heat can bend frames and crack coatings in one afternoon.

A little care keeps frames tight and lenses clear for years.
